R.I.P. Aspen

Sad news about Aspen.

It came time for her to go this week. She'd been having an increasingly hard time getting around, and it got to the point where she could no longer stand up because her back legs were just too weak.

True to her nature, she never complained and was calm and collected right to the end. I can't same the same for us, but we all had a chance to say good bye -- which meant a lot.

Finding Mom And Dad In The 1940 Census

In case you haven't seen it over at The Two-Way, here's a link to my post about searching the 1940 census database for mom and dad's records:

No Sale

I've posted about this on Tumblr and the LVCS Alumni blog.

To complete the circle:

We went to a fair in Lucketts, Va., on Saturday. It's a little town on Rt. 15 just south of the Maryland border. I think C spotted this display case first.

The antique dealer who was using it to show some of her items didn't want to sell it to me, unfortunately. It would have looked nice in our dining room.

Visitors From New England

Wonderful dinner this evening with Mary, George, Ellen and Amelia, who are with us tonight as they head back to Massachusetts after a week's vacation with George's family in North Carolina.

We cooked out. The girls talked about camp, school and nature. Very nice to have them here.

A Few Wedding Photos

We didn't get many good shots, unfortunately. But I've put a few here.
